Welcome to our latest AVAround the World blog post, where we take a look at the many accomplishments AVAlumni are achieving across the globe. From recitals to role debuts, concerts to festivals, December is certainly proving to be a busy month for our talented AVAlumni. Check out our update below of what successes our alumni have achieved this month.
With two December performances coming up, baritone Michael Adams ('15) is having one busy month. On December 4, Michael opened with Deutsche Oper Berlin in La boheme as Sergeant. His performance will overlap with another role as Harasta in Cunning Little Vixen on December 17.
Michele Angelini ('06) opened in November and continues his run this month with The Metropolitan Opera as Ubert/ Giacomo in La donna del Lago.
Fellow AVAlumna, Joyce DiDonato performs in the production as Elena. Click for a video of Joyce performing "Oh mattutini albori." Along with this performance, Joyce will also be conducting master classes with Julliard students and will be having a discussion with Rufus Wainwright and SubCulture New York regarding popular music, opera and a wide array of topics on December 16.
Bass Burak Bilgili ('04) will be performing two versions of Handel's Messiah as the bass soloist with both the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Washington National Orchestra.
Baritone Christopher Bolduc ('10) just wrapped a month-long performance with Hessisches Staatstheater as Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte. For dazzling reviews of Christopher's work, click here.
Christian Bowers ('13), baritone, began his performance with Lyric Opera of Chicago as Simon Thibault and Father Arguedas on December 7 and will continue the production until mid-January.
Bass Scott Conner ('12) performs this month through January with Zürich Opera as Don Profondo in Il viaggio a Reims.
Early this month, tenor Stephen Costello ('07) opened with Teatro Real in Madrid performing as Duca in Rigoletto. The production will continue until December 19. Click here for an article on Stephen's house role debut.
Soprano Colleen Daly ('09) will perform as the soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Maryland on December 13.
Fellow soprano Ellie Dehn ('06) continues her run as Musetta in San Francisco Opera's production of La bohème. Click here for a review from SF Gate.
Similarly to Ellie, soprano Joyce El-Khoury ('08) will perform at the end of this month, December 30 with Bayerische Staatsoper in their production of La bohème as Musetta.
On December 1, tenor Michael Fabiano ('09) finished a month-long performance with Opernhaus Zürich as Rodolfo in La bohème and on December 19 will be performing with The Royal Opera until January 7, 2016 as Lensky in their production of Eugene Onegin.
Tenor Bryan Hymel ('08) will be performing his house debut as the title role in La Damnation de Faust with Opéra National de Paris. The performance will open on December 23.
Soprano Shelley Jackson ('14) began a performance with Opernhaus Zurich in their production of La bohème as Musetta. The production began in November and will conclude on December 8.
Soprano Angela Meade ('09) starting performing with LA Opera's production of Norma in November and will continue until December 13. Angela stars as the title role. To read dazzling reviews of Angela's performance, click here.
Tenor Taylor Stayton ('11) will be performing in Il Barbiere di Siviglia as Count Almaviva with The Metropolitan Opera on December 30. This performance is part of the Met's "Holidays at Half Price" promotion, which allows 50% off tickets for children under 18 when purchased with a full-price.
Samantha van Adelsberg is a Los Angeles native working in AVA's marketing department and managing the AVA Young Professionals group. Samantha holds two degrees from Binghamton University in English and Vocal Performance and is an active rock vocalist in the Philadelphia music scene.
