Your Monthly Dose of Resident Artist Updates
The holidays were a whirlwind of festive concerts, carol-singing and holiday-themed classical extravaganzas. This year, January is looking up to being just as vocally-filled if not more so than the past few months. Here’s a look at what our Resident Artists have been engaged with.
Second-year baritone Michael Adams will be competing in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in the New Orleans district on Saturday, January 31, 2015. The auditions are designed to discover promising young opera singers and showcase their talent. The next round of district auditions is set for the next day, Sunday. We wish him luck!
André Courville and Daniel Noyola, both second-year bass-baritones, performed atthe Opera Index Winter Gala on Sunday, January 11, 2015 in New York City. After being awarded the Encouragement Award from Opera Index, André was asked to perform for the major fundraising event. André had the chance to meet Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano and 1987 Opera Index winner Susan Graham as well as National Medal of Arts recipient, Marilyn Horne.
Sunday, January 11, 2015 was an exciting day for ten of our Resident Artists as well. Daniel Noyola, Huanhuan Ma, Galeano Salas, Hannah Ludwig, Alexandra Schenck, Vanessa Vasquez, Alexandra Nowakowski, Anthony Schneider, Jonas Hacker and Mackenzie Whitney performed in an all Johannes Brahms recital accompanied and directed by pianist Luke Housner.
Luckily, those who were unable to attend the recital will have the opportunity to do so on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at The German Society of Pennsylvania.
Second-year soprano Melinda Whittington performed her solo Teatime with Downton Abbey for the WHYY Exclusive Premiere Event with pianist Ethan Uslan. The performance was held on Sunday, January 4, 2015 to a packed house.
