I love telling you about our AVA family members who create more than music.
Rebecca Carr, Coordinator for Opera Outreach and and AVA alumna makes beauty with her voice, and now makes beauty with her hands as well. She is the founder of Belle Pietre Jewelry and doing a bang up job creating amazing pieces of wearable art.
When asked how this came about, she wrote “Belle Pietre Jewelry was born of a single necklace created in a beading shop in Chestnut Hill, PA. AVA classmate, Caroline Whisnant, was visiting from Europe, and, neither one of us being shy retiring types, both made gorgeous, BIG, statement necklaces. Weeks later, on a whim, I spent a day with another AVA classmate, Julie Kierstine in NYC, and decided to purchase enough materials for two more pieces, and declare myself finished. Shortly, thereafter while shopping a local boutique the owner asked if I were a designer. I gave the owner an adamant "Yes!", and thought to myself, "Well, now I am.", and went home to create the pieces I was invited to display there.”
Since that first step, Rebecca’s work has found its way into other artisan shops, designers' markets and now an Art Exhibition. She said that it "serves beautifully as a creative outlet for me along with my singing!”
