That might be pushing it a bit since they were just born.
I’m happy to announce to the world that two more AVA dynasties have been formed with the birth of a new soprano and a new tenor.
Soprano Eglise Gutiérrez and bass Burak Bilgili welcomed their daughter, Lucia, into the world a few weeks ago in Philadelphia. I saw Eglise just days before the event at AVA and she was as radiant as ever. With Mom and Burak at her side she had great company waiting for Lucia. It was all scheduled so perfectly that Lucia would arrive between Daddy’s gigs, but just like a soprano, her costume and make-up wasn’t quite ready so she was later. When the day arrived, Dad was not in Philadelphia but already in rehearsals in Munich as Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Seviglia! He did see his beautiful daughter and wife via a video hook-up.
Mezzo-soprano Nina Yoshida Nelsen told me a secret quite a few months ago that she was going to have a baby. She was then at NY City Opera in Madama Butterfly at that time, and I’ve been busting to tell you ever since. She and her husband, Jeff Nelsen love living in Bloomington, IN where he is a professor of French horn as well as a member of Canadian Brass. Their son, Rhys Oliver, couldn’t wait to be born and arrived a few weeks ahead of schedule. Nina writes on Facebook how wonderful it is to have Rhys as part of their family. Somehow I think he’s going to be a world traveler just like his folks. Will he be a French horn player or tenor? You’ll have to stick around for my AVA blog in 2030 to find out!
