Each new season I am so thrilled to introduce you to the new resident artists at AVA.
The class of 2014 has nine new singers with homelands including Italy, Lebanon, Canada, Russia, South Africa and of course, America. Eight of the new singers were able to perform of the Bel Canto Competition and understand the warmth given by the AVA audience. I always mention to the new class that the audience members who hear them at the New Student Recital will follow their careers for the next few decades. I guarantee them that at some point in their career an audience member will arrive backstage and mention that they heard them for the first time on the AVA stage, and they might even mention what costume they were wearing!
Our newest resident artist, soprano Aleksandra Maximova, was not able to join her fellow singers at the competition because she was waiting for her visa to enter the USA from Russia.
For more information on the Resident Artists at AVA, go to the AVA web site and click on Resident Artists. Each of the singers has his or her own page with a photo and background information.
Keep a sharp eye out for the new singers. You can hear them all on Wednesday, November 3, when the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society hosts a concert of the AVA Resident Artists with guest soprano Angela Meade at The Independence Seaport Museum Theater at 8 pm. Tickets can be purchased directly thought PCMS by clicking here. Don't miss AVA's own Joyce DiDonato on Monday, February 28, 2011and Stephen Costello on March 20, 2011 in their Philadelphia Chamber Music Society recitals.
