So he’s singing all over the world. He makes his Metropolitan Opera debut. He sings at AVA’s 75th Anniversary concert. Now he wins the Richard Tucker Award for 2010.
I want to be James Valenti!
As I said, this has been a banner year for James. Of course, we knew last year that he was going to make his debut at the Met as Alfredo in La traviata, and that was exciting enough, but a singer doesn’t live on only eight performances a year.
He started this season off in Florence, Italy as the Duke in Rigoletto (with fellow AVA classmate Nicole Piccolomini as Maddalena). From there it was a quick hop to Lyon, France before he was off to Tokyo, Japan, before returning back to Paris. After the holidays it was back on the road for La bohème in Santander, Spain and Minnesota Opera (with fellow AVA classmate Ellie Dehn as Mimi).
It was then time for the Met and a glorious opening in La traviata. Two nights later, he’s on the stage at Verizon Hall in Philadelphia under the baton of Maestro Macatsoris before heading back to NYC for the rest of the run at the Metropolitan Opera.
The opera season is far from over for James. Plan a trip to Vancouver to hear him as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly beginning on May 29. If you happen to be across the pond in London, you can hear his Alfredo in La traviata beginning on July 8.
Make your plans now to attend the Richard Tucker Music Foundation Gala Concert on November 14, 2010 at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC.
A wonderful career for a wonderful tenor…Bravo!
