This past weekend the Bucks County Opera Association delighted everyone at their Gala, An Afternoon of Wine and Song, with the opening party of the gala season. This year it was held at the wonderful Sand Castle Winery on the banks of the Delaware River in upper Bucks County. (pictured James Paccioretti, Barbara Donnelly, and Ann Stephenson)
The location was baronial with tours of the wine cellar given by the owner and wine master, Joseph Maxian, who, along with his wife, was my dinner table companion. The silent auction had something for everyone, from a china tea set, various bottles of Sandcastle private reserve wine, to the biggest chocolate handmade Easter egg I’ve seen. All forty items went well over their asking bid with the proceeds going to the scholarship fund at AVA.
Part of the festivities were the lovely dinner, and of course music by resident artists Jan Cornelius, Zach Borichevsky, Taylor Stayton and Christopher Bolduc with Jose Melendez at the piano.

The Bucks County Opera Association has been quite creative in its events, including Halloween parties, Valentine receptions and house parties. They will host AVA’s production of La bohème on Saturday, May 15 at the beautiful Bucks County High School South Theater, which is tenor Zach Borichevsky’s alma mater.
Next up is the AVA 75th Anniversary Gala called BrAVA Philadelphia! on March 31.
Capping the gala season will be the South Jersey Opera Association Gala called Boheme Rhapsody on April 24.

One song can spark a moment. That sure is a beautiful song.
