What a good title, and I must admit it was stolen from soprano Corinne Schaefer, who is the subject of today’s blog.
We were all jealous to hear that Corinne was going to be singing the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute for Naples Opera in Florida. Sunny weather, beach time, beautiful sunsets – not!
Corinne wrote to tell me that both shows went wonderfully this weekend and although they were outdoors in 40 degree weather, all had good time. Maestro Gniewek is the husband of Met star Judith Blegen and Corinne was happy to have met one of her singing favorites. Corinne wrote “I was introduced to Judith Blegen. She came to our dress rehearsal and opening night, and it was such a surreal treat to meet her. Although my first encounter was me (in my make up, and the black sweat suit I was wearing under the costume) coming out of the ladies restroom backstage where I was warming up. I nearly knocked her over with the door.”
The other thing Corinne wasn’t quite ready for was meeting all the AVA snowbirds who live in, or were visiting, the Naples area. I often mention to the resident artists that their fans will follow them all over the world and will remind them of their time, and roles at AVA. Corinne wrote, “So you were not lying about the AVA people following you around. I sang at a luncheon yesterday for Opera Naples, and who did I meet? Well, Michael Fabiano's grandmother and AVA patrons Mr. and Mrs. (Harriet and Shelly) Margolis.”
It great to have Corinne back in Philly, and just in time for the spring-like weather.
