Every so often, while skimming through FaceBook and my AVA friends, I come across something that strikes me funny. I don't why why I keep humming Goldfinger… I couldn’t pass putting up this great photo of bass alum Kenneth Kellogg who is currently singing the King in Atlanta Opera’s production of Aida. Kenneth has recently finished his work as an Adler Fellow with San Francisco Opera where he even shared the stage with fellow alumna Ailyn Perez last spring in La traviata. While with the company he has been seen as the King (The Little Prince), Pietro (Simon Boccanegra), Colline (La bohème), the Voice of the Oracle (Idomeneo), Nikitich and a Police Sergeant (Boris Godunov), the Jailer (Tosca), and Grenvil (La traviata).
While checking out the Atlanta Opera site, I noticed that next season will have two AVA singers in the opening production of La bohème – current resident artist Jan Cornelius as Musetta, and alum Bryan Hymel as Rodolfo on October 5-10, 2010.
THIS JUST IN! Thank goodness for my roving reporters, and this time AVA Master Vocal Coach David Lofton can through in a big way. It seems alumna Indra Thomas saved the day on opening night of the Aida by stepping in at the last minute for an ailing colleague. It seems Ms. Thomas sang her first Aida with Atlanta Opera in 2003 and now she's back! The whole story is on Access Atlanta. Bravi Ms. Thomas and Mr. Kellogg.
