Not all AVA alums make their careers on the opera stage. Many hold jobs that encompass music, but from a desk. Two wonderful alums, who make their homes in Philadelphia, have major jobs with local non-profit and musical organizations.
Baritone Michael Eberhard (AVA class of 1995) has a new position in the city. He began, this week as the Operations Manager of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Previous positions have included work with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and as Public Relations Manager at AVA. Pictured with Michael is AVA alumna mezzo-soprano, Erin Holland, from AVA's production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, 2000 season.
Michael still sings locally, when time permits. He is part of the music ensemble at Congregation Rodeph Shalom, where AVA alumna Jody Kidwell is the cantor.
Baritone Roy Wilbur (AVA class of 1983) has also made his home in Philadelphia since his graduation from AVA. Roy quickly moved into arts administration, and is now the Project Manager of the Marketing Innovation Program for the Philadelphia Cultural Management Initiative. He also teaches Technology and Arts Marketing at Drexel University. Previously he was Associate Managing Director for Public Engagement at the Annenberg Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
Roy (pictured in red) just completed a run of the stage show Jeffery, Paul Rudnick’s revolutionary AIDS comedy, with the Represented Theater Co. He will also reprise his role of the Witch with the Mendelssohn Club in their concert of Honegger’s King David, which will also feature AVA alumna Jennifer Hsiung as the mezzo-soprano soloist.
Roy also chairs Heart Works, which benefits the Mazzoni Center. They will have their benefactors party on February 21, with events to follow on April 19 through 26.
I think these two AVA alums help make Philadelphia's art and music scene that much richer.
That's really very joy full & grate story.Thanks..
